Makurdi, Benue State
BenueTech has pledged continued support for building a vibrant digital economy in Benue State, following its participation in the Stakeholder Roundtable convened by the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC).
The roundtable, which brought together government representatives, technology hubs, startups, and innovators, focused on reshaping the state’s digital landscape through innovation, collaboration, and infrastructure development.
Representing BenueTech at the meeting, Agwu Oheobe, Communications Lead, stressed the need to complement infrastructure investments with human capital development. She noted that mentorship, structured tracking, and job placements for young innovators are crucial to sustaining the ecosystem.
“Human capital, more than infrastructure, defines a thriving ecosystem,” Oheobe said. “While we commend the government’s commitment to building a thriving tech hub in Benue, we must ensure that innovators are guided, supported, and given opportunities to commercialize their products.”
She highlighted BenueTech’s rapid growth, which has attracted over 20 startups, 50 founders, and 500 innovators within a short time. She also unveiled the upcoming Tech4IDPs initiative, scheduled for December, which aims to equip internally displaced persons (IDPs) with digital and entrepreneurial skills to foster self-sustenance and resettlement.
BenueTech also celebrated the global recognition of local startups like VetKonnect and ReadyLawyer, which have excelled in international hackathons. These successes, Oheobe emphasized, show that Benue innovators have the capacity to compete on global platforms if given adequate financial support, expert mentorship, and access to networks.
During the roundtable, BDIC reaffirmed the state’s commitment to digital growth, announcing a collaboration with the United Nations to establish a state-of-the-art technology hub in Benue. In addition, a modern tech hub is currently under construction at Benue State University (BSU), expected to be launched in October.
BenueTech expressed readiness to partner with government and private sector stakeholders to unify efforts and ensure that the state’s digital economy becomes inclusive, sustainable, and globally competitive.
