BenueTech Foundation was born out of a simple but urgent belief: that talent in Benue State was never the problem. Access was.
In 2023, our founder Tersoo Hulugh watched as talented, ambitious young people in Benue struggled to find viable pathways into tech — not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked structured support, the right networks, mentors, and visibility. So he started a WhatsApp group.
That WhatsApp group became a community. That community became Nigeria’s first tech-focused NGO in Benue State.
On September 30, 2023, BenueTech officially launched. Two years later, we have grown to over 540 members across 8 countries, supported startups that have won national hackathons and competed on the world stage at the World Food Prize Foundation, and registered as a formal nonprofit foundation.
We do this work because we know what is at stake. Over half of Nigeria’s young people are unemployed or underemployed. Fewer than 15 percent of African youth have access to formal digital education. We cannot wait for these statistics to improve on their own. We are the response.
Everything BenueTech does connects back to one goal: closing the gap between where Benue’s tech talent is and where it has the potential to be. We do this through five interconnected areas of work.
To build a thriving and globally recognized tech ecosystem in Benue State by empowering tech professionals, supporting startups, and attracting investment through innovation, mentorship, strategic partnerships, and capacity building.
To position Benue State as the number one global destination for tech talent sourcing and startup investment, while building a world-class innovation ecosystem rooted in collaboration, excellence, and inclusion.
We are not there yet. But every webinar, every mentorship pairing, every startup we spotlight, and every member we welcome is a deliberate step in that direction.
We do not build this ecosystem alone. Our partners from Nigerian businesses to global institutions, share our belief that investing in Benue talent creates outsized returns for communities, for Africa, and for the world. Thank you to everyone who has backed what we are building.
Here are some of the most common things people ask about BenueTech. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out!
